What More Do We Want?

What More Do We Want?

Dear friends,

As I have written before, the major human delusion and desire is to find peace and happiness by getting everything just right—and then freezing things so they do not change. We imagine that if we just try hard enough we can somehow enter that Promised Land. If that is your plan I’m afraid I have some bad news...

East West is in the heart of the Silicon Valley. It is lovely here, but in some ways not at all easy. It 's expensive! And the laws of the material plane are such that, generally speaking and given that money is just a form of energy, it takes a lot of money (energy) to live here. But the people (again, for the most part) are energetic, intelligent, and have a can-do spirit. Many are wealthy and refined with nice houses, etc. But I would not say those people are happier than anywhere else. What gives? Mastering those circumstances have taken people as far as they can and it is still not enough.

Our joy comes from inside. Connection with Spirit is really the only thing that will fill the hole in our hearts. There isn't the slightest thing wrong with creating circumstances that you prefer, but thinking that they will bring you lasting joy is a mistake. Your favorite hobby, sport, or pastime is undoubtedly a fine thing to spend time on, but can never truly fill us with the joy of Spirit.

So the question becomes, what are we doing about all of this? It is far too easy to get distracted by the toys around us and to make them the focus of our attention. Did you ever see little children playing in a sandbox with trucks? One says with great gravity, “No! That one goes here, not there!” We smile because it is so cute. They think they are doing important Big Business, but are merely playing with toys in a sandbox. :-)

Well, that’s what we look like to Spirit and the Masters! “No. I need a bigger car and house! And more loving friends! And a better relationship and job! And wait! That doesn't go here, or shouldn't happen. And how can he talk to me that way?! And…”

There is nothing wrong with playing in a sandbox, but let us never be confused as to the things that really matter. When we feel Spirit deep inside nothing and no one can shake us. May we always remember that and think and act accordingly.

Blessings,
